Elise

This week Elise came to Rexburg. I got to hang out with her for a few days. It was pretty sweet. She showed me where she use to live and I met some of her old friends. She also went to one of my classes with me.
Last week my roommates had a 'Nacho Party.' Some of our old FHE sisters came over and we had Nacho's and watched Nacho Libre. It was good.

Wrap- Up

Hello Everyone,

It would seem like it has been a while since I have posted. I can tell it has been a while because I forgot my password just as I was trying to log in. Well, I finished my first semester at BYU-I. Yeah. Now I get to start my first 'official semester,' or I will finally be on track.

Finals were crazy, but I did O.K in most of my classes. I had a ride to come home for christmas but it fell through. However, I got a ride at the last minute with Elise's help. Something just popped up at the last minute, it was great. Christmas was great. I got a lot of clothes, thanks again from the help of Elise.

However, after my first day home I began to experience some gastrointestinal problems. We were thinking it was a food allergy or lactose intolerance. First I tested the lactose intolerance theory. Being lactose intolerant was pretty hard. It seemed like all the food we had at home had some type of dairy product in it. I knew I had greatly increased my dairy intake since I got home but after a few days of trying to abstain from the dairy products I decided I should try something else while still trying to keep my lactose intake to a minimum. The next best guess was that it was something in the water. I did some research and found that there are bacteria that can be found in drinking water that causes similar symptoms to those of which I was manifesting. I wasn't sure if it was something in the water because I was the only one who was sick and mom and dad seemed to agreed. But after I started boiling my drinking water I started feeling a little better. However, after a week of my stomach rolling around like a baker kneading dough and the rest of my body acting more like a funnel than I sponge it was hard to really say when I started feeling well and some days it seems like I haven't completely recovered. But comparatively speaking I am doing just peachy.

It seems like my Christmas break is pretty much over. New Years Eve was all right but the first day of THE NEW DECADE wasn't anything to rave about. Mom and dad were going to have me drive the little Mitsubishi mirage back to school but as we went to go fill it up with gas we noticed that there was a gas leak. Dad worked had a look at the leak and tried to fix it but all the shops were closed so we couldn't get the part that we needed. The rubber tube for the fuel line had rotted.

That means I get to go on a road trip with Elise to Utah and then I will have to get a ride from there.

Fun. Fun. Fun.

We are leaving early in the morning so I better go.

Work

Well, I was going to upload pictures from the summer but they wont load. The internet isn't working very well.

A little while I got something in the mail from BYU-I. It was a thing asking to donate to the BYUI legacy fund. I don't think I would have normally given any money but dad sent me a talk that he got from Marae. It was from an economist who was talking at a devotional at BYU. He was talking about rich and poor persons who donate to charity. He had come to the conclusion through his studies that we fare better by choosing to give of our substance or money more often and not just waiting to we have money. Basically, he was saying that you make money by giving it away in support of others.
Well I had a little money so I thought I might as well donate some money. It was only a couple of dollars that I gave away. I
t took me a while to get around to remembering to take the envelope on campus. I dropped in off on my first day of work. Basically, I hadn't looked at jobs for a while but I decided to look and there was a job that all they wanted was to know your schedule and that you could work in the day time. I just thought it was amazing that I got hired so fast and I was able to make some money. I think my donating money might have been part of me having the opportunity to make money.
And finally, I had submitted a financial aide application a few weeks ago. I had just received a letter saying I didn't qualify for a grant or scholarship but if I wanted I could get a loan. Then I got another email saying that I got a scholarship. It was for $300.00. Sure, it ain't much but it will still be very helpful. I think it was just an interesting chain of events.
My job isn't to bad. It is from 11:00- 2:30. It seems like before I spend a good part of my day doing school related stuff. I hope I will be able to find the time to finish everything I need to finish. I guess I will have to go to bed earlier.

I guess it will all work out.

Oh, I just broke my Mini Reader that reads the memory card for my camera.

I better go.

Poetry ?

Well, I am doing this online class. It about art and propaganda. I just thought that might be something interesting to study. Now here I am taking the class. He has made us do some poetry. I thought just so you would have something to read I would post my poetry.

Here are the requirements of a poem I did last week. I did it the same time as the pictures in my last post.

Write a couple of lines of symbolist poetry to describe the mood you are in right now.

And here is my attempt to fulfill that requirements. I must have been watching the news recently. I noticed that this poem doesn't have a title.

Light Traffic on the westbound portion of the Flying WYE,
Slightly Windy right now but mostly Blue Skies.
Possible snow Tonight. Tomorrow, High of 38 low of 25.

That means there could be delays if you plan to fly.
Be weary of potential black ice in the morning for those who need to drive,
Slow down and go easy on the breaks, we don't want you to crash and die.

And here my other poem. I guess it was supposed to be short. My poem is not that short. Also, I don't think I remember what half of the terms are or if I did what I was supposed to do.Write a short lyric poem describing some aspect of BYU-Idaho life. Employ at least three of the following elements: metaphor, simile, symbol, synecdoche, metonymy, analogy, and allegory.

It starts out like a poem that I heard in my world literature class at ISU that I thought was interesting. It is called "Ozymandias" and except for the beginning my poem isn't very much like this poem.

My idea for the poem was what someone might think of BYU-I as an anthropological find.

I heard the tale of a traveling man
He told of a place he had found

where the inhabitants gaze twas heaven bound.
The people at once did disappear,
perhaps transported to a loftier sphere.

And sitting as if they were jewels of the crowned,
lay their monuments, springing forth from the ground.

Statuesque, stood they in the glimmering sun.
Standing as testaments to the things they had done.

The monuments that remain tell us, “What did they do?”
Which may cause One to wonder,
What will your monuments say about you?

Hello Again.

Hey Everybody,

Wow, its been a while since my last post. It seems like it has been a long time coming and a long time gone, whatever that means. Well, I wish I could sum up my summer, but I didn't have much of one. It seems like most of the summer was going back and forth to Yerington and New Plymouth, and I guess helping dad a little bit. We also, went to so David in Washington for about a week or so in the summer. That was nice. There was some great scenery and I think David was the last person in the Family that I saw after my mission, so that was good. Then there was Marae's wedding. That was a treat. Now Marae and Ben are expats in London, FUN, FUN. After the wedding we spent some time with Micheline and Bret and their family. Included in the stay was the opportunity to see Lindsey's Baptism.
Then as you all may know we headed up to BYU-IDAHO and I have been here since then. Great Stuff. Now it is almost midterms.
Last week we had a pretty good devotional by Dallin H. Oaks . Actually, there has been quite a bit of buzz on the issue. Some people have even called it historic. I guess they talked about it on the frontpage of the LDS.org website. Since I went I thought I would put up some quotes. A lot of the talk was about laws and the nature of religious freedom in this country.

Some things he pointed out were:

Our constitution was inspired by noble men of God. Now almost every nation on the earth has its own written constitution.

The People have a right to decide what kind of government they want.

Constitution instituted so everyone may act for himself and be accountable.

He talked about popular sovereignty and how everyone has a responsibility to govern themselves.

He talked of religious freedom and how the constitution outlines that there is no law prohibiting the free exercise of religion and no law that ties one religion to the state.

-He noted that there the Vitality of religious freedom is being attacked and the effort he has noticed in his lifetime that has been made to silence the religious- or christian- voice in the public square. And these people have grown very good at demeaning their opponents and discrediting those with religious views.

He spoke for a moment on the rage that was expressed against the church with regards to prop 8 and the appearance of 'newly alleged civil rights.' He said the the "supporters of Prop 8 were exercising their right to defend their views" and that those who sought to silence the voice of the supporters of Proposition 8 were seeking to silence us and take away our very real civil right to freedom of speach.

Then Elder Oaks gave guideline to follow for the future when the time may come when others try to silence our voices and our opinions.

1. speak with love, don't revile against revilers.
2. Don't be persecuted or coerced into being silent. And when "people speak out they have right to freedom from retaliation."
3. Insist on freedom to express our beliefs.
4. The religious will be most successful when they show respect for those who oppose them. Wise religious leaders will not support a religious test (such as at places like the ballot box).
5. Then he said the religion of a candidate should not be an issue in choosing a political candidate.
And we can not loose the influence of the religious candidate in the public square.

These are basically most of my notes I took. It was a pretty good talk.

And Here is a picture I found of Dallin H. Oaks on creative commons.

and here is a picture I made for my humanities class. I think I was supposed to do a cubist picture but I saw this option on the computer so I ended up making kind of a Pop Art Picture.

And here is one more picture.

I guess I might have to try and find some of the other stuff I did for this class.

Well, I guess that is it for now.

Crazy

June 11th, 2009

Hey Everyone,

These last few weeks have been a little crazy. We traveled to Idaho and stayed there for a week or two and then we came back. Then this last weekend I had a birthday. I turned 23 or something like that. Mom found me a old Mitsubishi to drive around so I got that to drive around since there are so many places to go to around here. I also got some sandals from mom and dad, but sorry Elise and Marae and I don't remember the designer. I think the sandals are tan.

But of course, the best of all is that the Favero's came to visit as well as Marae and Marae's Ben- by the way congrats on your engagement. Marae and Ben did have a little trouble getting here because they got a flat tire. As far as I have heard they weren't able to run over anything with their flat tire so they decided they would try to put on their spare tire, which I hear took a lot longer than they would have liked. The Favero's also got me a candy dispenser and I got some shirts

I also had a "Bomb" Birthday cake, courtesy of mom, for my birthday. I think it had mango Ice cream and Pineapple Ice cream in it.
Also, I left and or lost my phone in Idaho so thanks to all the people who called me on my birthday that I never got a chance to talk to.

These last few days I was a little sick. Dad got a little sick also. I don't know what I had. I threw up a few times and I had a headache. I also had sore legs. I feel better now.

In a couple of hours I suppose all TV stations in the USA are suppose to officially switch over to digital television and stop transmitting its analog signal. You probably know I would normally be weird enough to watch the transition happen but it looks like Yerington hasn't gotten around to even getting an analog signal out here let alone any kind of digital signal. I don't know if anyone has tried to get a signal out here. There aren't to many radio stations that are broadcasting in this direction either.

And finally, for some reason I have been watching/ listening to the movie " The Gods Must Be Crazy 2" from the Netflix website ( You can't watch the first one online). I have only watched a few minutes of it because the internet has been slow and or I have been switching back and forth to write in my blog.

After our trip

It was the day after our trip to our home in the Nevada desert and Dad had plenty of work for us to do. Well, I didn't help Dad out much that first day. I really wasn't in the working mode so I didn't do much of anything that first day back. That reminds me of a quote in the Gospel Principles book that said something like "Doing, nothing is the hardest work of all, because one can never stop to rest." No wonder I was so tired after doing all that work.
The days have kind of run together lately, but I eventually went out and helped Dad a little bit. He has really done a lot.

I have been looking for some kind of Job somewhere else, but every day it is looking more and more likely I am going to be spending a lot of time in this place.

There hasn't been much else going on. However, Elder Bednar and Elder Anderson( the new apostle) and a member of the seventy, Elder Zwick, all came to a Reno meetinghouse and they met with the youth of the area. I got to go with Elise. It was nice. They opened it up to questions most of the time but neither of us asked any questions.
And that's just about it.
